Nocturnes

Thursday 16th September 2021
Sophya Polevaya

I.
Scrolling down
slacked and rasping
tremolandi
falling
from the golden
spiral
baroque
and carved
a motionless
profile eye.

II.
Blazing
fuoco
it's here
awake
the storm
of flying
tail pieces
battuto
and butterflied
seraphic moths
once from a box
soaring to
dreams astral
leaving a single
overtone ring.

III.
A player
of no words
solo
and
stringed
strumming
the midnight blues
to a slow swing
for her
his cherished star
Viola.

IV.
Their whispers
col legno glissandi
twinned
and staggered breaths
a series of
crescendo waves
rise and fall
cicadas
in heterophony
looped and knotted
forming the cosmic river
of day and night.

V.
In a place
close to me
is a memory of you
a silhouette gnossienne
centred in soft light
encased
in an elegant
metal cage
like the rabbit in
the moon.
